Introduce yourself and let readers know where they can see your work.
Hello my name is Dru Grubbs. You can find me on Facebook as a member of the Mythic Legions Cabal.
How long have you been customizing action figures?
I have been customizing for 30+ years. I started with G.I.Joes and then ToyBiz X-men and Mcfarlane. I then moved on to 1/6 scale figures and Marvel Legends. Now I do Mythic Legions.
What got you into Mythic Legions?
Like most, I played Dungeons and Dragons when I was younger and I always like that kind of fantasy world with dwarves, elves, orcs, and monsters. I loved the DnD figures back in the day. I didn’t find out about Mythic Legions until they were offered on BBTS for pre-order. I fell in love with them and wanted them all.
Do you have what you would call a signature custom, or any favorite customs you have done?
I am not sure that I have a signature custom. Some of my favorites are the goblin heads that I have painted and the female dwarf. People seem to like my Chaos Beastman with the goat head from MAFC and my custom Sir Godfrey figure.
What are your favorite kinds of Mythic Legions customs to do?
I really like the dwarves and the orc/goblins. Both of these race are my favorite to paint, but I enjoy painting any type of character.
Do you have any “wish list” character types or races that you would like to see from Mythic Legions, and which you would love to be able to work with as a customizer?
I would like to see smaller races like gnomes or ratmen for Mythics, something a little smaller than dwarves and goblins.
What kinds of tools do you use your customs work, including paints and brushes?
I use everything from cheaper paints and brushes to Citadel and Army Painter paints and brushes.
What would people be surprised to learn about your customizing or collecting hobby?
My age (HaHa), and he still plays with toys!?!?
Any tips or suggestions for Mythic fans looking to start customizing?
Just starting out, don’t go with cheaper paints and brushes, even if it is tempting. Get a good set of paints like Citadel or Army Painter and a few good brushes. Believe me there is a difference. Learn with them then experiment with the cheaper stuff later. Learn how to thin your paint to get a smooth application.
Final question – who is your favorite non-customized Mythic Legions figure?
My favorites change, but at the moment it is Halmyr Goldtooth. He is just a cool looking dwarf.
