A longtime customizer who somewhat recently made the jump from 1/6 scale figures into the world of Mythic Legions, Luis Torres was one of the artists exhibiting at the first Legions Con in 2019 where he blew attendees away with his custom creations. For this edition of "Customizing Corner", we check in with Luis to see some of his work and learn a bit about what drew him to Mythic Legions.
First off, introduce yourself and let readers know where they can see your work.
Hello everyone my name is Luis Torres.
I can be found on Facebook on the Mythic Legions Cabal page. And also on Instagram as luistorres9855
How long have you been customizing action figures?
I’ve been customizing for 10yrs, mainly 1/6 scale. But I've been doing 1/12th scale for 1-1/2yrs, exclusively Mythic Legions.
What got you into Mythic Legions?
I saw the first Kickstarter and was very interested, but it wasn’t until I went to ToyConNJ and saw the product at the Horsemen's booth that I finally jumped into the line, around 1.5 wave I think! I’ve always loved this type of world - orcs, elves, dwarves, and everything in between! It makes my imagination go wild!
Do you have what you would call a signature custom, or any favorite customs you have done?
Not sure about a favorite, but a lot of people seem to really have loved the Black Templar dwarf I’ve done. People love that guy and he’s pretty bad ass! And I just completed a demon and I really love how he turned out! I call him the Forgotten One, aka the Fire Demon, and people reading this article are seeing him for the first time!
What are your favorite kinds of Mythic Legions customs to do?
Man, I really love the dwarves. Those are always my favorite to do! But as I start to do other races besides the dwarves I really enjoy it all!
Do you have any “wish list” character types or races that you would like to see from Mythic Legions, and which you would love to be able to work with as a customizer?
Really can’t wait for some wizards I know their coming and I can’t wait!
What kinds of tools do you use your customs work, including paints and brushes?
I use Citadel paints and brushes. I really like those paints they just work for me! I also use some Tamiya products as well.
What would people be surprised to learn about your customizing or collecting hobby?
Besides painting, I can also do a little sculpting and I can sew a little bit so it helps when putting together customs because sometime you have to do sculpting and soft goods to make it work.
Any tips or suggestions for Mythic fans looking to start customizing?
If your looking to start customizing, have patience and don’t be afraid to mess up. It’s all trial and error. And watch a lot of videos on YouTube because that helps me out learning techniques form the pros! But watching and doing it are two different things! But the only way to learn is to actually do it yourself!
Final question - who is your favorite non-customized Mythic Legions figure?
My favorite Legion to date is a hard one because they are all done so well. But as of right now it’s Thumpp. He’s a simple character, but man I’m loving him right now. That face sculpt has so much character it blows my mind.
