With the recent announcement from Super7 showing the new Series 1 of Silverhawks, fans can finally say that their requests for these toys have been answered. While other 1980s action figure lines like Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, GI Joe, and Transformers have continued to receive updated product releases over the years, Silverhawks has been the forgotten property – until now.
Fans have long requested updated versions of these toys, and the team-up of Super7 and Four Horsemen Toy Design have made it happen! In this article, we will look back at the history of this line, and the amazing new toys that are coming.
The History of Silverhawks
Silverhawks was an animated series developed by the Rankin/Bass company, best known for their stop-motion holiday specials. Like those other aforementioned 1980’s properties, the Silverhawks television program coincided with a toy line. The Silverhawks figures were made by Kenner starting in 1987. These figures each had an “action feature” gimmick of some kind, a companion bird, and many also included “vac-metal” decos.
Known for the tagline of being “Partly Metal. Partly Real”, a number of figures and a handful of vehicles were released for the Silverhawks line. Unlike many of the more well-known action figure lines of this era, however, Silverhawks did not have a lengthy production run. Outside of the initial waveof toys, some additional figures which were shown in Kenner catalog in 1988 never actually saw production. Still, the figures that were produced have remained a favorite of many action figure fans who were kids during that golden age of action figures and cartoon programming!
The NEW Silverhawks
The process of creating and released action figures, especially licensed properties of any kind, is a lengthy process. While fans clamored for Silverhawks, often assuming no one was listening to their pleas, work was being done in the background to acquire licenses and set the wheels in motion to bring Silverhawks backas ULTIMATES! figures.
On June 9, 2021, Super7 finally revealed the firstwave's lineup for the new Silverhawks ULTIMATES! toys after teasing some sample images earlier. That lineup included the Silverhawks’ leader, Quicksilver, and the intelligent and extremely strong Steelheart. Rounding out the wave were two of the property’s villians – the mob boss Mon*Star (who is a super-sized 11” figure!) and his robot henceman, Buzz-saw.
According to Super7 Founder and Owner, Brian Flynn, “What is super exciting is that the ULTIMATES! figures are just the beginning. We have a much larger relationship with SilverHawks LLC, and we will see SilverHawks available again for years to come.”
If that statement was not proof enough that this is just the beginning for this line, the press release goes on to definitively state that “Additional SilverHawks ULTIMATES! figures can be expected later in 2021 and beyond.”
Stay tuned for more on these figures, and our ongoing projects with Super7!
